Hello. I am having an error on my iMac DV 400 OS (9.2.2). I m not sure,
but I think it might have happened as I was sending a document to my HP
laser printer at the same time that my ISP was disconneting me for
inactivity. Since everything froze, I restarted, and now have a bomb
error type 10. I rebooted from the DiskWarrior CD and ran DiskWarrior.
When that didn't remedy the situation, I rebooted from the Apple install
disk's Disk Repair. It found nothing to repair.

In trying different things out, I've found that I actually have some
usable time before the bomb & crash. The one time I rebooted just to time
this usable time, it lasted 43 seconds. The prompt window usully says,

Sorry, a system error occurred.
"Finder"
error type 10

I have restarted many times, trying different things. Once I had time to
open a ClarisWorks WP document and type eight-ten lines of stuff before it
froze. The prompt window that time said,

Sorry, a system error occurred.
"ClarisWorks"
error type 10

I thought it might be a document "stuck" in the printer, since there was a
document included in the HP desktop printer's icon. So the next time it
rebooted (during my window of opportunity) I went to "chooser" and
switched to the Canon inkjet printer. Upon restart, I still had the same
problem. The next time I restarted, I opened ClarisWorks again, typed
just a few words, and sent that to the printer. It froze before the page
printed. This time the bomb prompt window said,

Sorry, a system error occurred.
"Finder"
CHK error

I have tried restarting with the USB hub plugged and unplugged. I've also
plugged/unplugged the firewire external HD and CD-RW. I've had them each
plugged in one at a time, and I've tried various combinations of all the
peripherals plugged in together. Please help! I know there's never a
good time for a computer to be down for a few days, but this is bad timing
indeed. (We just brought my husband home from four weeks in the hospital,
the dishwasher and washing machine need repair, we have out-of-town
company spending the night Monday night, and I have a monthly e-mail
newsletter to compile and send!) I have not backed up my HD in probably a
month. (I bet right now as you're reading this, you're thinking that it's
probably time to back up your stuff. I know I would be if I was only
reading this post rather than writing it!)

I searched online and found lots of suggestions for older Macs
experiencing type 10 errors. I've also found references to resetting the
cuda switch. I have to tell you that in ten years of owning Macs, I've
never needed to find the cuda switch.

Please help if you can.

Thanks,
Claire
