MSN+Mac = VERY BAD IDEA.

Well, the price was right. But I really cant argue with you on that one.

Where can I find the best price?

Price is not the only factor. A DSL service that's slow and unreliable @ $29/month is not as good as a fast, reliable one @ $40/month. It's worth bearing in mind that there's a huge range here -- the low end DSL runs about $30, the high-end consumer DSL runs about $50.

I would tell you to at least take a look at Earthlink's DSL service -- they may not be the lowest price (though I believe they ARE running a special at the moment), but their pop-up and spam blocking schemes add CONSIDERABLE speed and value to your internet experience over someone who's slightly cheaper but doesn't aggressively block those things.

You might try DSLreports.com to get a handle on exactly WHO offers DSL in your area, and what other users think of them. I dislike how the site is laid out, but the info is there.

If your local phone company offers DSL in combination with their LD service, that might prove to be the best value.

I think it helps to determine what your needs are ... do you do a lot of uploading? That could affect which DSL "package" is best for you. Most people don't, they just want the fast downloading ... SBC and some others have recently reduced prices on low-end DSL (meaning 384kb/sec download, a mere 6 times faster than phone modems) to around $30/month, but I'm on a cable modem in central Florida with 1Mb/sec download (20 times dialup speed) for $45/month. For me, that extra speed is REALLY worth the piddling amount of differential.

Finally, I urge you to BEWARE dial-up companies that claim to offer "DSL speed." You might be attracted to them because of their "low" rates (compared to real DSL) of around $25/month, but this is pure marketing BS and their claims are wildly untrue. They compress the content down further before sending it to you, resulting in some small gain in "snappiness" on your end, but no actual improvement in download speed.
