Hey All: Out of nowhere this evening my iMac DV (Summer 2000) started giving me jittery video; the monitor pictures seems to be kind of vibrating slightly, like it is expanding and contracting at the monitor edges. I moved the imac to another room to see if it was some type of electrical interference, but the picture is still jittery. I don't have an external monitor available this evening to see if it would happen to an external monitor hooked up to the VGA port (I have to haul one in from my office, where my old LC II is set up as pretty distraction to impress my Wintel using co-workers, who don't dare run a x286 from 1991)
I've searched the archives about this video problem, and can't find any info on it; maybe the archives were purged recently or something. Is my motherboard going bad? Analog video board? How much would it cost to fix? Is it easy to fix myself? I've never cracked my iMac case, and wouldn't know where to begin. The only system change I've done recently is install DiskWarrior 2.1.1. But this wouldn't account for the jittery picture, would it? The jitteryness is still there when I boot with extensions disabled. The only time the jitteryness stops is when it 1) wakes from sleep, then about 2 minutes later it starts again, and 2) when I boot from the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with my iMac--and this is the first time I've *ever* booted with that CD and run the tests, which came back as "no problems found." Any feedback would be helpful. MWS -- Matthew W.
