Ask him if he tried to install Jaguar on it without doing the firmware update first.
I aquired a very cheap iMac 400DV this way, the guy thought the monitor was damaged (as did I at the time). :o) ---
PAV board for that unit is about $175 last I checked.
Hardly worth it for a rev.B iMac as a second hand one iMac complete can be found for $150...
