Do you know if this machine has had OSX installed?  Installing X without
first updating the firmware can damage the CRT.  I don't have the details,
but someone else will surely jump in to provide them.  If not, it
could be the Analog/Video board.  If you have the Apple Service Manual and
are comfortable using a Multi-tester follow the procedures for testing the
Power Supply and Analog Video board.
