Hi Listers-

Thanks to the people who sent me the info. I was able to swap out the
old 6 gig HD and install the 40 gig drive. I partitioned it with OS 9
utility from an Installer CD. I also installed 9.01 (from the CD) into
the larger partition. I then, using my OS 10.2 installer disk put
Jaguar onto the 7 gig partition. All went well and I got a successful
installation dialog box. I restarted and my new troubles began.

I got the flashing ? icon.

The OS MUST reside within the first *physical* 8 gigs of your hard drive on these older CRT iMacs. You need to re-partition it so that both OSes will fall within that first 8 gig. It can be one or two partitions. What worked for me was to have the first partition be 6 gigs for OS X, and two gigs for OS 9, and the rest of the disk as just one partition. (You can divide it up however works best for you.) Then, install OS 9 on the second partition first. The Jag installer seems to like it better if OS 9 is installed first. Boot up and run software update to get to 9.22 if you need to. When that's done, run the Jaguar installer (10.2) and put it on the first partition. You could just go right to Panther (10.3) instead, as that installer has been fixed so that it won't allow you to install it on any partition outside the first 8 gig. It should automatically run software update to get you to 10.3.1. In my case, I already had Jaguar installed, so I simply updated it to Panther over the existing Jaguar, with no problems whatsoever on my Blueberry 333 tray-loader, other than some third party haxies that didn't work anymore. (No big deal.)

(Sorry if this post duplicates another - I didn't notice any other replies, but then I didn't find this request until after deleting a bunch of e-mails while cleaning out my inbox.)
