What I have done......
Make a copy of the users folder.
Install a new version of Netscape....you can upgrade to 7.x, I believe.
Boot it up and enter information as if you were starting a new account.....this creates the folders in your User Folder, mail, inbox, etc.
Quit your browser.
Then ....cross your fingers.... replace the new existing files in your user folder, address book.....abook.nab - I think....and your bookmarks file - bookmarks.html, in you mail folder, mail sent, drafts, inbox, etc....there will also be additional files in your copied mail folder, please include those also, close you folders and boot your browser.
If you have lived a clean life, etc. your new browser will give you all or some portion of your old mail recieved, sent, address book, bookmarks, etc.
If it doesnt work you have lost nothing and can go back to attempt to reconstruct.....
I have done this with full and partial success....but I always got some benefit......good luck.

Hello All,
I have somehow corrupted my browser/mail client, Netscape Communicator 4.79. I routinely was adding an address to my Messenger addressbook when the entire contents was simply gone. Disappeared. As if it had never existed. It doesn't show up anywhere on my hard drive when I look for it with Sherlock or Norton UnErase.
Any ideas of if it is possible to recover, and how to recover the disappeared Addressbook are greatly appreciated!
This unfortunate incident was preceded by Netscape crashing each and every time I hit the "Send" button, and again each time I tried to open my "Sent Mail" folder (but not any of the other mail folders), so I cannot recreate the addressbook from the posts I have sent out.
Needless to say, I am devastated. I did save my addressbook as an LDIF file as well as a Text file a few months ago, so at least some of my addresses are saved. But I just now tried to Import copies of them, and they didn't show up in the addressbook at all.
I am sure I must now reinstall Netscape because it is obviously corrupted and becoming even more so. I don't want to jeopardize any of the rest of what I may have remaining in my mail folders.
I have never done this before, so would like to know if anyone can please tell me if this is the order of the course of action to take:
- Save the Netscape User Folder to disk .
- Trash all remaining Netscape-referenced items on the HD.
- Reinstall NS from the website.
- Drag saved NS User Folder into System Folder Preferences.
Thanks, I appreciate your help!
