I'm going to be upgrading to Panther (OS X 10.3.x) soon and I've been thinking of installing my current version of Jaguar (OS X 10.2.8) on a partition of my FireWire hard drive as an aid to assist me in helping friends and family when they call for tech support from me.Carbon Copy Cloner. Clone your existing HD to the external drive, select make bootable, before you upgrade. You'll have a complete working 102.+ system with everything you've installed.
I've got OS X 10.2.6 on the DVD that came with my Flat Panel iMac to use as a starting point, but what I'd like to know is if there is any way to re-install all the updates that I've previously installed on my iMac's hard drive (through Software Update) on to the FireWire hard drive without having to download them again over dialup?
Then after you upgrade to 10.3 you'll still have a working 10.2 system on the external drive. CCC is wonderful shareware.
