Hello, I do not know much about imacs. A friend of mine asked me to help him with a problem. I think that he was infected with one or more viruses which he cleaned off with Norton anti-virus. He did not know which viruses they were. I guess there might have been an audit trail of that in the Norton software... He is accessing the Internet with a cable modem but I do not think he is using a fire wall. I advised him to install a fire wall.
When he brings up internet explorer there is a menu at the top that has the usual pull down buttons such as FILE, EDIT etc... Below that there is another line of buttons for pull down menus, one of which is Home. On that lower line of pull down menus, there are now some that didnt used to be there. When they are clicked they pull up a URL on the Internet with some raunchy sex. I tried to figure out how to remove them for him but I only had an hour and couldnt figure it out. There did not appear to be a menu selection to allow you to add and remove these new buttons... or whatever they are called. Someone suggested that I didnt look deeply enough under TOOLS on the top line of buttons. Does anyone know how to change these guys in IE ? Does this sound like something done by a virus or by someone who hacked into the system or by a friend of one of his kids ? I was able to get into a unix shell which was nice but I couldnt find anything that seemed to be related to this line of buttons in IE or any way to change them. I liked the fact that the Imac had unix under the shell. How much do the original Imacs cost used ? Thank you, Jon -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
