Hi Jon,

That certainly doesn't sound like a virus to me, more like someone managed
to add a bookmark in a fashionable way to Explorers button bar. That can be
from a "legitimate" download site, or from a pr0n-site or whatever.

Check out the bookmarks first and delete unwanted entries,
(Window->Favorites or simply cmd-2)

To restore the toolbar, you can either go to the toolbar customization menu
(View->Customize Toolbars...) and do things from there, or quit the app and
just delete the file:
~/Library/Preferences/Explorer/English.Toolbar.xml
Then it should restore the file to the default settings when Explorer starts
again.

On the other hand, if your friend has Mac OS X 10.2.x or later, he should be
using Safari from http://www.apple.com/safari instead of Winblows
Exploder(TM ;-)) or for sites that play dirty javascript tricks on you, iCab
from http://www.icab.de, where you can tweak javascript to do only what you
want it to do. It has lousy CSS-support, but it should be coming.

I have no idea what an original iMac costs, but have a look at the eMac too.
I just got one for my parents instead of their aging iMac 400 DV. It is well
worth the money, and you are sure that it will load more than 192 MB of RAM.
