Just heard from my hubby, who gets all sorts of stuff at work, that the Feds
caught some guy in the DC area last week, and his setup was said to be
responsible for up to 40% of the spam trash out there. They took away his
ability to "send", and have tossed him behind bars. Hope they keep him
there.
When I first started using them, on an OS 9 machine, I was getting, despite
filters on the program, about 10 or 20 a day. I'm down to 2 a day. So nice!
I'm on .Mac (as you can see from my email address) and they do a real good job of cutting down the spam. That to me is worth at least half the fee right there.
Until yesterday I was on Roadrunner as my "real" ISP, and though they were VERY good in many ways and I continue to recommend them, their spam-catching left something to be desired. I just moved to Earthlink hi-speed instead (note to Roadrunner: lower your prices and I'll be back!), turned on their spamtrap and so far it's been ALL QUIET on the spam front. Between this and Safari's pop-up blocking (and a certain banner-blocking stylesheet I use with it), the Internet is downright fun (and quick!).
