First of all, thanks to everyone who's written to this list saying that their iMac DV was either dead or dying. I had to convince DH that computers have a "life expectancy" when used hard <as mine is>. Your emails helped, and the new G5 arrives tomorrow. I deliberately bought more computer than I'm currently using, as I expect to keep the 5 at least 4 years, and expect my competence to rise!

That said, what's the easiest, non-tech-involved, way for me to transfer data, etc from one computer to the other? I do have a Firewire cable and outlet on the DV. Can I just plug the two together and tell the new one to slurp up everything on the old one?

Second question: once the DV's data is safely on the 5, how do I go about scrubbing up the DV for donation? Links are appreciated!

Thanks for all the help!
Kris
