Take your original system discs and do a new install selecting "erase and install". Once that's done you can take any commercial scrubber ( Personally I like Shredit X http://www.mireth.com/pub/sxme.html) and shred the free space on the disc, to whatever degree of destruction you want. Including the DOD Mil Standard for e-document shredding.
Second question: once the DV's data is safely on the 5, how do I go about scrubbing up the DV for donation? Links are appreciated!

For the paranoid, you can buy a new 20-30GB hard drive for the DV (not very expensive right now). Install it put an OS on it, and take a sledge hammer to the old HD. Your information will be safe under all circumstances. :-)
