Well thanks! I was having a hard time getting the old 333 imac to boot up off a CD - but I got it to work using the 9.2 CD which came with our new Imac. So we got back to 9.1 - and I suppose I will upgrade to 9.2 !

if that wasn't it:
ques 2   is there a folder called old system folder or previous system
folder?
ques 3   is there a folder called system folder
step 1  check each system folder and look for a folder called System.
check for version # by turning on view options or getting info.
step 2  boot from any bootable cd and make sure your os 9.1 folder is
called "System Folder" and the others something else
this should rebles the proper system folder.

I can't recall or recreate whatever I did which let me choose between the folders...

Can someone lead me back to 9.1??? please ???? :) TIA
