Multiple copies in Mail?

Totally confused. New machine with Panther on it. Mail, for some reason 
I can't discern, has decided that I should get multiple copies of each 
email. Can't find the magic setting that turns this off! Plus which, 
even though most of the mail is from addresses in my address book, it 
dumps everything into Junk.

Help?
