repetitive emails

Using Panther on my new G5, and having an awful time with Mail 
delivering multiple copies of the same message--sometimes up to 6 
copies! Is there any way to convince Mail to stop this? I've searched 
in preferences, settings, and elsewhere, but nothing seems to address 
this issue. HELP! It's almost enough to drive me back to my G3 with 
9.2.2 on it!
