Thanks for the feedback guys!  Unfortunately my only option where I 
live is a dial-up connection.  I downloaded the software you mentioned 
& installed it, hopefully it will eliminate the need for a re-start.

I just started having a problem with the internal modem on my iMac G4
running Panther.  When I'm using Mail 1.3.3 or Safari downloading a
