NEVER ASSUME THE FAULT TO BE HARDWARE.
Most of the time it is a bad driver, corrupted driver, or an uninstalled driver. The LAST RESORT is a drive cleaner, etc.
Try reinstalling the drivers, etc. before a hardware fix.

Regarding the SuperDisk Drive�s sudden failure to work: Imation
makes a cleaner specifically for the SuperDisk. It is called LS-120 Diskette
Drive Head Cleaning Kit. After I had used my SuperDisk Drive for about 8
months, it suddenly would not read disks, including its own. Unplugging,
resetting, reinstalling software, etc., did not work. However, I
remembered that I had ignored Imation�s advice to clean the drive
head periodically. Hoping the drive just needed cleaning, I asked a local
office supply store to place a special order for the cleaner. (I could not
find any place that carried the product and Imation�s customer service
could/would do no more than tell me exactly what to ask for.) The
cleaner includes a small bottle of cleaning fluid and a disk onto which you
place several drops of the cleaner. I followed the procedure, had to wait
about 10-15 minutes for the cleaner to evaporate inside the drive, and
suddenly the SuperDrive worked beautifully again. I have noticed that about
every 6-8 months, my SuperDrive suddenly stops working without warning.
Then I use the cleaner and it starts working again. If you have an Imation
SuperDrive, I would recommend getting the cleaner kit (apprx. $20)
ahead of
time.
