For the letter G, have a look in System Preferences, Keyboard and Mouse,
Keyboard Shortcuts and see if there is a g somewhere.

With respect to your Dock, check out the System Preferences for the Dock
too. That might not be the single solution, if you have a
third-party-dock-enhancer installed that has made the problem for you.

Ultimately, you shouldn't have to reinstall everything, but if everything
else fails, make a new user for yourself and see if that one doesn't work.

You might need some helt moving stuff, but get back to us then.
