Hi, My flat panel iMac has developed a problem in the past few days. I have separate accounts set up on my iMac for myself, my wife, and each of my two children. Today we noticed that I am the only user who can print anything. My son assures me he was able to print something this past Wednesday or Thursday. This past Tuesday I installed Mac OS 10.3.3, so he was able to print after I did the installation (or so he thinks). The printer is a Canon S630. And there's one other goofy thing that I noticed last night: if we try to mount a blank CD-R disc, I am the only one who can do that, too. Everyone else gets a message saying something about error code 13, and the disc pops back out (right after they try to name the disc). They can read CD-Rs with data already on them just fine. So I don't know if the blank CD-R problem and the printer problem are related or not.
I have tried downloading and reinstalling the Canon S630 printer drivers (version 1.70). I have tried deleting and adding the S630 as a printer. I have tried changing my son's account from "some limits" to "no limits." I have fixed permissions using Disk Utility. It fixed two things. I have run Disk Warrior to repair the disk. It found a few things too. None of these fixes the printer problem. Since I am able to print from my account, it seems to me that there is a problem with the software in the iMac, rather than the printer itself. I also started up from a Firewire external drive I have that has Mac OS 10.2.6 on it (plus accounts for each of the 4 users). I was able to print from all users' accounts when starting up in 10.2.6. So I think something has gotten hosed in 10.3.3 on my iMac, but I don't know what. I'd appreciate troubleshooting tips any of you might be able to give me. I've been working on trying to fix this for about 6 hours today and tonight and I am pretty frustrated at this point. Thanks for your help!
