I bought a refurbished eMac last fall and wonder if it is a good idea to buy the Apple Care to give two more years of coverage. Would that be a wise or necessary investment?
Everyone feels differently. If nothing ever goes wrong it's like buying insurance you never need. One logic board failure and it's a great investment. Personally I have always purchased Applecare for eligible computers and never regretted it. Most of the time it's never been needed, but I had the LCD screen on a TiBook fail after the normal warranty and it certainly paid for itself.
I had the motherboard ethernet port fail on my G4 MDD after a lightning strike and EMP pulse, requiring a new logic board and it was certainly worth it. Just a decision you have to make personally. The nice thing about Applecare coverage is the unlimited access to calling them. <G>
For us here, going back to 1995, I've found Applecare worthwhile. It's the only computer company extended warranty I would ever pay for. Dealing with some brand X peecee OEM extended warranties is again to hitting yourself with hammer. You may never get your computer fixed, but it feels so good to stop you're happy anyway. Who cares if you now have one of Michael Dell's or Ted Waite's doorstops. :-)
