Hi Miche The Aussie Dollar has gained ground against the US Dollar and is now at 75c, whereas last year it was around 60c. So far we have not seen any changes in Apple pricing to reflect the weaker US Dollar! The entry level eMac is $1345 and the superdrive model is about $1845! You can see hwy many Aussies shun macs because they can pick up two very good PC's for the price of the Super drive eMac. We look at the US sales prices and see entry level iMacs going for US $1295, so working on the exchange rate we should be getting them in Aus for AUS $1825, but they go for a staggering AUS $2250!!!! Most Mac hardware is almost double it's US price. Panther retails at AUS $229 yet it is only US $125 in The States. Panther is afterall, based on BSD Unix which is FREE!!!!! Yet it retails for more than Windows XP. Also most Macs are made in Indonesia and Malaysia which are right next door to us, so we're hardly going to get shipping issues! Looks like Mac Users in Blighty get a better deal. Pete
-----Original Message----- From: iMac List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Miche Sent: Thursday, 15 April 2004 2:43 AM To: iMac List Subject: New eMacs much cheaper in UK The reports of speed-bumped eMacs I've seen have been on US websites, so UK listers may not have noticed that the entry-level combo model is now 100 cheaper here, at 549, while the superdrive model is down 250 to 699. Still significantly dearer than in the US (comme toujours), but this change in the entry-level price belatedly reflects the state of the dollar: two days ago the combo eMac cost the equivalent of $1150 in the UK. I presume other European markets are seeing similar price cuts. NB: at time of writing the UK Apple Store hasn't been updated - it still shows the old prices and the old specs - but the front page at www.apple.com/uk gives the new details. I'm well chuffed: the other week I was about to spend 700 on a combo eMac (including 50 to bring the RAM up to a basic 256MB), but some big bills came in and I decided to wait another month. Now I can spend the same money on a superdrive model, or save enough on the combo to buy an external hard drive. Yippee! Miche. -- I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by. (Douglas Adams) -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
