I'm just going through my email and found this thread so I may have missed something but...
I hope to replace the DVD drive in a slot loading iMac. I don't think so still, I'm sure they're a completely different shape, the handle is in a different place, the bottom bit doesn't come up as high, things like that, the speakers also are very different, on the slot loaders the grilles are round and the two headphone sockets are side by side separate, whereas on the tray loaders they are an oblong shape and the two headphone sockets are one above the other in the left hand grille. I am certain they are different, I could be wrong since I can't see them in front of me, but I don't think I am.
