I bought it using 1-click and it was *really* easy. Easiest $1000 I
ever spent, actually. It's a new eMac with a ComboDrive, plus
Microsoft Word 2004. I am really excited about this. It's my first
major purchase ever. I'm 22 and fresh out of college as of May 8th, so
I figured, I needed some sort of graduation present.

Congratulations! You got a great little (well, not so little I guess) all-around workhorse. I have only a little advice for you:

1. When you are able, buy an external FW hard drive that is as large or larger than the drive in the eMac. This way, you can have a portable, bootable backup of your computer and perhaps some extra storage space as well! A donationware program called Carbon Copy Cloner will let you create the "clone" backup painlessly. Backups can be REALLY important -- just because your machine is new doesn't mean you won't need to backup!

2. There's a free program called OnyX which you should download and run once a month -- really helps keep the system healthy!

3. Another bit of money you should invest into your machine is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). Randy Singer recently talked about this on (this?) list and he's right -- it's worth the money and will add months if not years to the life of your machine.

4. You don't mention how much RAM you got with your new computer, but if it's anything less than 512MB I'd strongly suggest upgrading the RAM as soon as you get a chance for the best experience.
