I Have an iMac '466' (233MHz with NewerTech 466MHz upgrade), 160MB RAM, Panther and run Sound Studio OK. It was dropped by packers, and the Mac repair guy say's it's cheaper to buy a second hand iMac than repair the damage, since the repair won't gaurantee fixing things.
I was going to beef up the RAM, but 256MB 66MHz RAM is nearly half the price of a second hand iMac. Is it worth upgrading my existing iMac or would it be more economical to get another second hand imac? If I get another iMac would I be better off getting another tray loader (233/266/333) and transplanting the NewerTech card, or, an iMac 350/400 with 100MHz memory? Would I notice any spignificant speed/performance difference between an 400Mhz iMac running 100MHz memory and my '466' running 66MHz memory? Since I predominatnly use the iMac for audio (thanks to members of this list), is the Harmon audio hardware, in say the 350, better quality hardware than the tray loaders? I'm using the Mic input to take stereo line level signals from a Behringer mixer. TIA Pete -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
