A friend of mine has an iMac 400, and we wonder: if we replace the CD-drive with a DVD-burner, will the iMac be able to also play back DVDs decently? I don't know how it is with Macs equipped with DVD-ROMs; does the processor do all the work of decompression, or do they have special hardware for that?

DVD-burners have come down a lot in price. Can we use just any ATA-device sold for PCs? Will the OS recognize it? (she is using OS 9)

In advance, Thanx!
