I had one of these drives which went bad it sounds similar to the problem I experienced, you could see it in the Profiler it would accept disks 1.44Mb /120Mb SuperDisk floppies and would eject but not read/write them or show anything on the desktop! Turned out to be a faulty optical unit the drive was just in warranty and I got a replacement all was ok.Hi all,
I just got an Imation USB SuperDisk floppy drive for my OS 9.1 Rev. A 233 iMac.
I can see it fine in System Profiler, but I can't mount any media (1.44Mb floppies) from it. It injects and ejects disks fine, but nothing shows up on the screen. No choice to format, or anything. I have it plugged directly into the iMac's second USB port, plus the wall wart, so it shouldn't be a voltage problem.
Can this thing only work with 120 Mb Superdisks? I thought it was compatible with the 1.44Mb disks also.
I checked with Imation's web site for drivers, but it says MacOS 9 and above don't need drivers.
Would something like _Mt. Everything_ help? If so, where do I find it?
Did you buy this drive new? Has a floppy drive cleaner been anywhere near it - they can destroy the optic element
