Or have her use headphones (ones with volume knobs are inexpensive, or you can get an inline volume adjuster that goes between the headphones and the iMac),...... or mute it altogether with a plain stereo mini plug that has no cable attached to it (pretty cheap at Radio Shack). The latter also is helpful when you want to start up your iMac at night, but don't want the startup chime to wake anyone. Cheers, John
