To Dr. Schoft: Please note the problem in the line above.
ik dont know who tried this before or thinks this is a good idea (maybe no one does haha).
Yeah, it's a terrible idea. Read on.
Anyway i was thinking of replacing the slot CD/DVD of my DV+ with a HP 7500 series and then cut a piece out of the front of the imac.
I assume that an "HP 7500 series" is a burner of some kind.
I know its unreparable cosmetic damage but, hey functionality above all.
that way i dont have to spend any of my scarce dough to be able to burn cd's. That way I was thinking that within a year or so i could eay replace my burner with a
DVD-R 4x when everybody has a DVD-R that burns like 37x or what have you. Like if i am ever gonna burn 5 DVD's per day.
Any thoughts?
Yes:
1. You'll destroy the resale value of that machine (I know, it's hardly anything now, but ...)
2. You'll expose the inside to more dust and change the ventilation dynamics of the machine, probably causing problems.
So:
3. You have a FW port on that DV+ don't you? Surely it wouldn't break the bank to buy a Plumax 5.25 external case for that burner (we're talking less than $50 here). That way you can replace the HP burner with your DVD writer when the time comes without any hassle.
4. Are you sure that HP burner will even be recognised by your machine? If you're running OS X 10.2 or higher there's a good chance that Patchburn II will make it work, but otherwise I'd have said the chances were quite slim that it would be recognized by anything other than Toast 6.
5. You'll never be authoring (movie) DVDs on that machine, it's a G3. You'd better plan on about three full days of uninterrupted rendering time per disc, minimum. If you want to make movie DVDs, buy an eMac. Data DVDs should be fine.
