My trials and tribulations getting a printer to work that is unsupported drove me to buy a printer that is DESIGNED and COMPATIBLE with Macs.
Office Depot, Office Max or Staples should trade you as long as they carry the Canon model. Check their webpage.

Unfortunately the box only lists Windows compatibility but nothing at all about Mac, and the website says nothing about the MP390's compatibility one way or the other. Other similar models are Windows-only, though.
