Hi,
Can someone suggest an inexpensive black and white/gray scale printer that
can be used with the iMac. For years now I've been using an Apple Color
Stylewriter Pro. The problem with the Stylewriter Pro besides being slow, is
that it does not want to print in B&W/Gray if the color cartridges are
empty. Since I rarely use color I have used-up alot of color ink without
ever having used it! - it evaporates!! That's alot of wasted money and ink
over the years. Can someone suggest a make and model printer and an
approximate price.

I use a Apple LaserWriter 16/600 for most of my printing, I picked it up for about $100. It has ethernet, Localtalk, parallel ports that can all be active at the same time (I just have it plugged into a line from my router). Sure it's 10 years old, but the engine is rated for over 400,000 pages (mine has 41,000) and it is still supported by OSX and can do IP printing for whenever Apple drops native drivers.
