I have a Dlink wireless router hooked up to the cable modem, running my iBook with Airport card, a Windoze box (my son's, for gaming) with a Dlink wireless card, and a 400 DV iMac connected through the ethernet to the router. Works flawlessly and it's none of the cable company's business. Some iMacs can act as a base station for another Mac with an Airport card, but I don't know if that's true of your flat panel.
