I don't think they did. I know that OS9 has many different back colors that look cool and match the colors of iMacs nicely. As for it coming up in teal. My universal install disc, 9.1 came up in teal too. So maybe thats the new standard color? at least for OS 9.
Maybe you're right... although I find it quite strange that there's a "Mac OS default" scheme as well (matching Mac OS 8's colours). I guess the name misled me.
But it would be nice, wouldn't it?
