P.S. As for the comment about treating myself to an eMac...If I were you I
wouldn't assume the size of my wallet. Not all of us can afford new
computers every year.
I wasn't trying to make assumptions about your financials. Believe me, I know *all about* tight cash flows ...
I was merely suggesting what I felt was the best "bang for the buck" on the lower end of Apple's current offerings.
Nobody suggested you should replace your computer "every year," but I think a range of 3-4 years is more realistic than hoping that a 1998 G3 is going to last you till Longhorn comes out. I do realise and appreciate that this concept is something of a change for many Mac owners who are in "the habit" of holding on to their machines for five or more years, but it's not so drastic a concept, and giving Apple's superb job of infusing each new release of OS X with major new technologies and genuine improvements, it's not unwarranted for a typical Mac owner to "feel the need" to upgrade, say, every general election year.
It's not like this stuff hasn't been out for a while ... you've had PLENTY of time to transition to/save up for a newer machine, and when said machine is the basis of a money-making enterprise, this is an issue that should be examined regularly.
