I'm quite comfortable with using the same installation software of the Mac OS on multiple computers that I own. I actually did it with the release of Panther....the one copy got installed on 3 Macs.
Regrettably, your interpretation of the license agreement you accepted is at odds with reality. The fact of the matter is that you should have bought a Family Pack ($199) license for Panther if you wanted to install it on three computers. IMPO, that's a very fair price and I encourage owners to take advantage of Apple's generosity. They don't *have* to keep OS X unrestricted, you know ...
Same thing applies to my Photoshop. We bought one copy and have it installed on our 3 Macs.
Again, what you happen to think is "okay" doesn't hold any water legally speaking. You might want to read the license(s) you agreed to.
Microsoft (a necessary evil) surprised me when we installed Office on the 3 Macs.....if I was using Word and my wife decided to use Entourage, she would get a message that this software was in use by another user on the network and it would quit. Now, I think that is just plain wrong.
Let me get this straight ...
You think that you're entitled to break copyright law and your licensing agreement whenever it suits you, but when Microsoft decides to ENFORCE it's agreement with you, that's wrong?
Microsoft expects me to buy a separate copy of Office for each computer? NO WAY!
Actually, Microsoft's current license (well, the v. X Student/Teacher Edition, which a teacher pal of mine bought) contains a specific allowance for installation on up to three computers within the same LAN -- they even include three activation codes! Sensible move on their part, I feel.
Appleworks to the rescue. Fair use of software is to be able to use it on computers you own that are in your house.
I don't disagree with the notion that software licenses should allow for installation on at least two machines -- a desktop and a laptop -- since many people work that way. But presently, not a lot of companies are that forward-thinking. Luckily, there are exceptions like Apple, who either DO allow that sort of install or offer sanely-priced "family" licenses.
