No kidding - this whole EULA mess came about via Microsoft. It's a hellhole.

Computers are useless paperweights without the OS. Microsoft realized that -- and got away from hardware manufacture/sales. Apple stayed the course -- resulting in their current anemic market share. This despite being the superior OS as we all know.

If you have an Apple machine, as far as I'm concerned, however you obtained it (outside of outright theft) you have the right to run the Apple OS.

People need to lighten up on the whole "illegal" "piracy" etc. etc. nonsense and use their nice Macs in peace. Apple never checks to see if you're running a "pirated" "illegal" OS -- so stop worrying so much and enjoy your nice machine. Get the OS any way you can, and just purchase it outright if you're so concerned about being "right."

Your Apple is made to be used and enjoyed, without needless fear. Spend time being creative and productive, rather than worrying. Just my 2c.

Have read with interest the various views of what is piracy. A dictionary explanation of piracy might be"unauthorized use of a copyrighted or patented work, idea, etc. (Australian Macquarie dictionary).

In light of this when I purchase an OS system I do not sign or agree to do anything or everything with it. When I Install it I may have a box to tick saying I agree with the terms and conditions which 999 out of thousand never read. Does this mean I have entered into a contract with the seller of the product. I think not.
A contract needs to include informed agreement by both parties. I cannot even read the the single user license until after I have opened the packet.
Unless I register it with the supplier there is no record or proof that I have used and will use it in accord with the implied conditions or not. My purchasing the product was not on any other condition than that I pay the money. Once I have legally purchased the product I have no legal obligation to do anything with it. I have not agreed to abide by written terms or conditions, I have not agreed to use it or not use it There is nothing illegal in my burning the product it would just be $235 au. dollars going up in smoke, or using it to be an ornament on the wall. Big corporate companies hide behind "the law" as interpreted by the judiciary and the legal profession ( a better description would be the "illegal" profession) to make money for themselves. What about the principle of fair and reasonable use.
The whole system of licensing is based on wrong principles. I would love to see an open system. Bill Gates and others like him who support and indulge in this system, should be made to give back the exorbitant amounts of money thay have in my view stolen form others in the world.
How about considering whether it is wrong or right to impose exorbitant fees or licenses on products in a separate thread.
