I'm not sure I'd put it quite so harshly, but I agree with your overall 
point: the cost of Mac ownership is LUDICROUSLY low compared to PC 
ownership, and the importance of actually paying for 
software/supporting developers is tremendously high relative to PC 
owners, and in particular money spent on Apple in the form of 
products/services tends to get returned tenfold in new 
products/services/computers/OS improvements.

Thus, if I may paraphrase the point John's making, it's more important 
to "get and stay legal" with Apple than it is with the larger PC world, 
both for your own benefit (relatively small investment yields large 
return) and for the benefit of the Mac community in general (developers 
get paid, they tend to develop more stuff). So, those of you who have 
"cheated" a little with your multiple-panther installs and/or pirated 
music/software ... no, no lecture from me (today), just making the 
point that you're only hurting yourself, long-term. Next time you have 
some cash or the opportunity (or both), get legal. I know it's hokey to 
say, but you really will feel better about it.
