Hi guys...
I am sure this is a very trivial question that possibly you already answered in the past. Anyway...
I have a 1.25 GHz iMac with an 80Gb internal hd and an 120Gb external firewire drive. I have installed a system on both drives but most of the time I use the internal 80Gb as the startup unit. My whole family uses this computer more or less daily and we have 6 separate user accounts running on the 80Gb drive. Now, I would like to reformat the internal drive and install a fresh system and new installations of software. In the mean time I am planning to use the external drive as startup device. However... things aren't as simple as they once were pre OSX. Nowadays there are so many hidden files and OSX seem so much more sensitive to changes of the file hierarchy. Thus, my question is: Can I just drag the user accounts across to my external drive, format the internal one and install all my software, and then drag the accounts back? Will everything work as normal after that or is there other files somewhere on my internal drive that also needs to be copied before formatting the drive? What is the best way to do this?
Cheers,
/jesp
