I have been having issues with my hi-speed access intermittently for several weeks. I have a flat screen Imac running panther, with a netgear router (four our ibook) and motorola surf? cable modem.

After a few calls out here by different techs, who tested line and swapped with their modem, they recommended a new modem. We went and purchased a new modem yesterday (the motorola). However, today I'm back to erratic connectivity. I use Cox for my cable company. The tech today, on the phone, told me that he can see why I'm having the problem. It is - (and forgive me for not knowing the exact terminology) because the transmit signals are way to high, they should be 30-40 - and I'm clocking in at 58. Enough, he says, to knock me off the internet access. A problem he says is fixable by them installing a filter.

So - I'm wondering if the problems even was my old modem.

My question, is this... since we installed the new Motorola Surf modem last night, I'm losing access nearly every 1/2 hour or so.
It's different than the problem I've been experiencing, where I would lose access for hours, then come back on. I asked the tech if the new modem could be causing me to go offline so frequently - but he said probably not.
Is it just coincidence that I've installed the new modem and now my access is worse than ever?? Just curious. The good news is - that they've given me a months credit on my account...
