Anyone out there with experience with this know where else a power block can occur?
Hi:
I have installed a couple of Harmoni kits and have not had a power up problem. I did have one unit where I was never able to get the Firewire port to work correctly, though, but this was not a good experiment because the motherboard I used had also been modified by myself to attempt to make it work with a diskette drive. I may have damaged that motherboard in soldering.
Also, I found out the hard way that it is not a good idea, after installing the Harmoni kit, to do repeated disassemblies of the iMac for purposes of playing around with different amounts of RAM. In order to access the RAM after the Harmoni kit is in, you have to disassemble parts of the Harmoni kit and I found that some of the wiring connectors failed after repeatedly being pushed on and tugged off their connectors.
However, I have just had an odd experience with an older iMac. This iMac originally came with a short keyboard which had a power button on the keyboard. But then I used it for a long time with a newer Apple keyboard which has no power on button on the keyboard. For that situation, I powered the iMac up using the power on button to the right of the CD tray loader.
I had put this iMac aside for several weeks, with everything disconnected. When I reassembled it to get it running again for my grandson, I used a keyboard that did not have a power on button. When I tried to power it up using the button on the case, it acted like it was getting no power. Nothing. Nadda. I even changed the AC cable to the wall socket. Nothing worked, until I replaced the keyboard with one that has a power on button on it. FIred up just fine. I presume that I can now Shut Down the computer, put the power-buttonless-keyboard back in place, and it will probably work fine again.
Just something to check if you happen to have both kinds of keyboards around.
Good luck!!
