My iMac originally responded quickly, but has been deteriorating
slowly over time. There are substantial delays when starting a
program, closing a window, even the cursor stays frozen on the screen
and it takes a couple of moves with the mouse to get it moving (I use
an optical mouse).
I tried rebuilding the desktop, it didn't make much difference. It
ried reloading the OS (9.1), again not much difference. Would I have
to rebuild the disk (12Gb)?
  Any suggestions?
