Hi. I'm having a bit of trouble with my iMac (G3 400 MHz, OS X 10.3.4) and my AirPort (Extreme Base Station with modem) set up. I keep my iMac on all the time, just putting her to sleep when not in use. Most days, at some point, when I wake her up and try to connect to the internet via AIrPort from the Menu Bar, I find that the 'sub menu' arrow is missing from next to my network name in the drop down menu. The network name is always there, but I can't access the sub menu to Connect.
This is a daily source of frustration. The workarounds I've employed so far are turning AirPort off and on again from the Menu Bar, which sometimes works, and turning off/back on the Base Station at the mains (on a different floor of the house). The whole set up is pretty new (card and adapter second hand off eBay) and brand new Base Station as of a few months ago. It gave me no gyp for months, and now it plays up every day. Between working and not working, the following have happened, which may be having an effect: 1. Upgraded from OS X 10.2.8 > 10.3.3 > 10.3.4. 2. Upgraded the internal HD from the stock 10GB Quamtum Fireball > 120GB Samsung SpinPoint. 3. We had a new fuse box installed in the house which tripped out twice in short succession, once when the iMac was restarting from the first trip, which darn-near killed it and meant I had to rescue it from CD. There is a persistent disk error (shown in Apple's Disk Utility) which I plan to fix this weekend by cloning the drive to my external HD, reformatting the internal HD and cloning back on to it. Do you have any ideas, folks? Sound like software or hardware? Should I try the 10.3.4 Combo Update again? Re-download AirPort software? Return the Base Station under warranty? My wife thinks my iMac's rubbish anyway, so all this isn't helping matters much... Many thanks for your thoughts. Cheers, Adam -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
