In an attempt to keep my Mac/ADSL online all the time
irrelevant of net activity I have now set Network Tool
to continuously ping my ISP, seems to work...

However, sending the 64 bytes every second, how will
that affect performance ?

I have a 512k ADSL connection.

I presume not a lot...

I can't speak for every ADSL provider, but I've never yet come across one that wasn't on all the time. I presume you looked into this (or at least asked your provider about it) already ...

Even if they DO drop your connection, surely EVERY SECOND is a little bit overkill for the situation?

As for affecting performance, I would say that sending so often absolutely WILL affect performance, quite noticeably I should think.
