Sherman: (and others)

Checked the firewall angle, it is a hardware item. I checked the system on another "station" it worked right away. So I plugged it back in to the problem "station" it worked to easy, I unpluged it and plugged in my iBook, nothing. cut off the cable end and put a new one on, and viola, working like it was meant to. The connector was loose so pushing and pulling it on and off would connect or disconnect one or more of the wires depending on the pressure applied.

Again the obvious was the killer. Appreciate everyones assistance.

There is one thing you can check - does any of your friend's PCs have
installed any firewall (i.e. zone alarm). I have a mix PC/Mac
environment and I have zone alarm installed on multiple PCs. When
they are up, my Mac can't connect to the Internet because Zone Alarm
blocked it.

Here's something I would try just to make sure everything's working -
plug the eMac directly into the cox cable modem. You should have
gotten an IP address from the cable modem and you should be able to
connect to the Internet. If you can't, there's a problem with your
eMac (probably).

If that works, then plug you eMac into the hub/router that's connected
to the cox modem, but unplug all the other machines that are connected
to the hub/router. See if you can connect to the Internet. If so,
then start adding machines to the hub/router until you start having
problems.

That should at least give you an idea who or what is causing the
problem. You don't have to turn off any of your machines to do this.

But it should be a pretty straight forward pprocedure, still....

Brand new eMac (OSX 10.3.5) . Hooked up via Enet to Linksys cable/DSL
router to (Cox) cable modem. Followed below procedure, no joy. Yes the
enet cable is in the proper connector, yes there is a signal to the
cable.

Went into SYSTEM PREFERENCES > NETWORK > BUILT-IN ETHERNET > TCP/IP:
Automatic
Built-in Ethernet

Using DCHP
IP Adress:
Subnet Mask:
Router:

Above are all blank until I hit <Apply Now> button, then "appropriate"
info fills in. But still cannot connect. Also hit <Renew DHCP Lease>
still no connection.

I am pretty sure the "problem" is with me not being able to see the
obvious. Are there any proxies (Use passive FTP mode) checked, other
buttons, things that would cause the no connection problem?

The Enet cable and connection were working for a just moved HP
Pavillion. I don't want to mees with the router settings and mess up
the other compter (PC). My iBook (OSX 10.3.5) works fine on this
connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, MRay
