I have been on a couple of calls where the problem was that the computer was plugged 
into a wall receptacle and the receptacle was controlled by a wall switch which was 
turned OFF, or a plug was loose and appeared to be plugged in but wasn't. Is the light 
on the Power Bar showing up as powered ?

A DEAD 3.6 volt PRAM battery can screw up the startup...
