Thanks to everyone who responded, we got the CD out of my niece's Indigo iMac DV.

Of course, now it won't boot, just gets to the flashing question mark. I just talked her thru running DiskWarrior and Norton on it, rebuilt the directory, and found a lot of bad bundle bits, creation dates, etc., all of which have been repaired. Still can't boot from the internal hard disk. Never mind that I gave her the warnings about doing monthly maintenance, which were cheerfully ignored ;-)

Not sure what to try next. I haven't used OS9 in so long that I feel like if I had the box in front of me I would remember what to do, but giving instructions over the phone would result in some disaster. I will drive the 100 miles if I absolutely have to. I fear that the only solution may be to reinstall the system software...anyone have some ideas?

Indigo iMac DV, 400mhz, OS 9.2
