This might fail. Many SOHO cable/dsl routers won't pass the Appletalk 
protocol, TCP/IP only. Since you plan to connect via Netatalk, there is a 
good chance the router won't pass the protocol. Feel free to give it a 
shot as some routers are unintelligent hubs on the local side.

If it fails (which I really suspect it will), then use TCP/IP to access 
the printer instead. I'm sure the JetDirect card in the printer has a 
TCP/IP Printer Daemon in it. Or, move the printer and the Mac to a 
regular switch or hub and chain that to the router (thus moving the 
Appletalk devices off the router and onto a switch that will transfer the 
protocol)
