I'm still looking for iMac upgrade components. I've got a Bondi 233mhz that is bone stock and I'd like to soup it up a little bit. Anybody got any go-faster parts out there?
There are four that come to mind:
1. The Sonnet HARMONi upgrade, which gives you a 500MHz processor and a firewire port for about $300.
2. More RAM. I believe the original iMac will, using the correct types (they're different for each of the two slots) support up to 512MB.
3. Faster hard drive. You can easily (well, relatively easily) swap out the stock HD with any IDE 3.5" hard drive up to 120GB. I suggest getting one that has the following specs: 7200rpm, 8MB cache. Big difference.
4. Replace the CD-ROM with a CD-RW drive from MCE technologies, who will put it in there for you as well.
Frankly, of course, you'd spend less money buying a refurbished eMac (and get more of everything) than doing all the upgrades suggested here (I forgot the VRAM upgrade to 8MB -- hardly worth it IMHO).
