Because it was said that the problem happened when it was imported USING the AAC encoder. Trying a different encoder is called "troubleshooting".
The "fault" physically lies with the actual CD-ROM as it is obviously damaged though I hadn't spotted it before sticking it in the drive.
The "problem" lies in that iTunes crashes/stalls as it cannot fulfill the rip.
What I would like to have seen was a simple cancel function where it would just eject the CD and abandon the operation. ---
Besides, why limit yourself to Apple's DRM version of AAC? You can't even play Apple AAC encoded music on all versions of iTunes
Erm, because I only run Panther on my iMac G4, AlBook and my MDD, oh and my 3G iPod AAC works just fine. :o)
