Just because your system is slowing down does not necessarily mean you've got spyware on your eMac (although that would be a very likely diagnosis for a PC). How much free space do you have on your hard drive? OS X seems to need 10-20% of your HD free for virtual memory to work efficiently.
Clear some space on your HD, download the latest updaters to your system software, run Disk Utility to repair permissions (or d/l Onyx to do more maintenance), and things may improve quickly.
Also, use your mail program (I guess you aren't using Apple's Mail program?) to quote the letter you're replying to, as others have suggested.
